It is the polychrome alabaster statue that we can admire today in the Cathedral Museum. This is the true pièce de resistance of the cult of the emperor, its most paradigmatic and definitive visual expression. And it is for this reason that he presides over the chapel uninterruptedly from 1345 to the end of the nineteenth century. There are more solid arguments that allow us to argue that Girona’s is an original representation of Saint Charlemagne. The main fact is that there are iconographic particularities, as is the case of Catalan-Aragonese heraldry, which make the image of Girona an authentic unicum in the field of Caroline representations.
